Range Safety Policy
Credit Cards now accepted for
range and membership fees.
See any on duty Range Officer for information.
All shooters must follow the instructions and directions of the Range Safety Officers.
Failure to do so may result in your being asked to leave the range.
3 Basic NRA Rules of Firearm Safety:
ALWAYS keep your gun pointed in a safe direction.
ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
ALWAYS keep your gun unloaded until ready to use.
General Range Safety Rules:
Eye and ear protection must be worn at all times while on the range.
Only standard handguns in handgun calibers and rimfire firearms are permitted on the pistol side of the range.
Steel & green tipped ammunition is NOT permitted on the public range.
Shotshells & shotguns are not allowed on the Public Range. This includes all pistol fired shotshells.
Unload your range bag on the shooting bench, then move your empty bag to the wall behind the shooting lane.
A dress code is established to maintain a safe shooting environment, It must be followed.
Closed toe shoes only, no sandals or flip-flops.
No lowcut collars. Brass is very hot, it will go into any opening and burn your skin.
Hats/caps are suggested but not required
Dade City Gun Club is a family friendly club. Profanity will not be tolerated on the range
When CEASE FIRE is called, ensure all firearms are cleared of any ammunition and magazines. Bolts, slides and revolvers locked open, and safety flags are inserted to show that the firearm is clear. Once all firearms have been inspected, the range will be declared safe and you will then be allowed to go downrange to service your targets. When you return from downrange, stay behind the line and DO NOT TOUCH any firearm on the bench until all shooters have returned and the Range Officer declares the range is clear and that you may resume firing.
If you have a firearm malfunction and can not clear it on your own, seek the assistance of a Range Safety Officer before attempting any repairs on the range.
The Range Safety Officer(s) on duty has the final say on above requirements.
Body Armor is NOT PERMITTED on the public range
Targets
Only paper targets on club target frames are allowed.
NRA paper targets, frames, and staplers are included with your paid range fee.
You may bring your own targets, but no targets of recognizable images or silhouettes of any kind are allowed.
Only one target per frame on all rifle and pistol shooting positions.
All targets must be no larger than the following:
PISTOL SIDE 10” X 12”
RIFLE SIDE 14” X 14”
Range Safety Officers will provide guidance on the proper placement of the target on the target frame.
Youth Shooters
Anyone who has not reached his/her eighteenth (18) Birthday, per Florida Statute 790.22, must be accompanied and supervised by a paid adult or member 18 or older.
The minimum age to shoot at the Dade City Gun Club is 8 years old.
Youth shooters 8 to 12 years old are restricted to rimfire caliber rifles. Any action type must be loaded one round at a time, until the on-duty RSO is convinced they can stay on target. This includes any time they may visit the range. They may NOT shoot pistols. Youth shooters 13 years or older may shoot any firearm allowed on the range. Youths are not assigned a shooting position. Positions are assigned to the supervising adult. The adult must remain in a position to take control of the firearm from the Youth at all times. The adult may only supervise/coach one Youth at a time.
Exemptions to the above restrictions of caliber, age, number of rounds that may be loaded at one me, or firearm type, may be issued by qualified NRA instructors only. Adults must request the exemption and the Youth must complete an approximate one-hour evaluation. Qualified Youth will be issued a Waiver ID card indicating which exemptions have been made. Waiver qualification requirement handouts are available at the range upon request.
Service Dogs:
Certified service dogs are allowed on the ranges if outfitted with owner provided eye and ear safety protection. Owner must maintain control of the animal at all time.
